How to book a gas engineer.
WHEN YOU NEED ONE
When the law says it has to be a registered engineer.
Gas work in a home is not a grey area. Anyone carrying it out has to be on the Gas Safe Register, and the jobs below all count, whether it is a new appliance or moving an existing one a few feet.

A new or replacement gas appliance
Boiler, fire, cooker or hob. It has to be fitted by a registered engineer and, on a boiler, notified under Building Regulations.

Moving or refitting a cooker or hob
Even a short move counts, because the connection and the pipework have to be made and tested again afterwards.

Any alteration to gas pipework
New runs, extensions, rerouting and capping off. Undersized pipework is a common find in older houses and it starves every appliance on the run.

Letting a property out
Landlords need a gas safety check on every appliance every 12 months, with the record given to the tenant. That is the CP12.

Buying or selling a home
Not a legal requirement, but a safety check before you commit is worth doing, especially on a boiler with no service history.

That is not a booking, it is an emergency. Call the National Gas Emergency line free on 0800 111 999, open the windows and leave the switches alone. We can pick up any repair once the property is made safe.

Checking the whole installation holds pressure. It is how a suspected gas leak gets confirmed or ruled out properly.
